Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is the state of New Hampshire's only academic medical center.
It is headquartered in Lebanon, New Hampshire on a 225-acre campus in the heart of the Upper Connecticut
River Valley. DHMC is New Hampshire's only Level I Trauma Center, one of only three in northern New
England, and it includes New Hampshire and Vermont’s only air ambulance service. DHMC strives to fulfill the
integrated missions of patient care, research and teaching. DHMC provides comprehensive health care for
patients in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts. DHMC is a 439-bed inpatient facility, &
also provides outpatient clinics in most specialty areas.
HEART & VASCULAR CENTER
The Sections of Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and
Cardiovascular Medicine comprise the Heart and Vascular Center (HVC). The HVC strives to innovate
integrated patient care, expand clinical research, and demonstrate excellence in graduate and post-graduate
medical education.

THE CARDIAC SURGERY SECTION
​The Section of Cardiac Surgery prides itself on being an integral part of a multidisciplinary approach to the
treatment of ischemic heart disease and valvular heart disease. This team combines the input of diagnostic
and invasive cardiology and cardiac surgery to offer patients a balanced assessment of risk and options when
deciding about the treatment of acquired heart disease. The Section has a highly productive research portfolio
concentrating on the outcomes of coronary artery surgery and heart valve therapy. DH cardiac surgery
participates in the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group, which has a long history of
success advancing risk assessment, complication mitigation and patient centered decision-making.
